Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has a tough decision to make on his foreign legion of players as the five foreign quota spots are oversubscribed – yet he still has three extra players to accommodate.
Zimbabwean bustling strikers Cuthbert Malajila, alongside Botswana Mogakolodi Ngele have returned from a Bidvest Wits loan, complicating coach Pitso Mosimane selection options.Media reports also predict that Burundian Fiston Abdul Razak will return to Masandawana base, after a stint with Bloemfontein Celtic. The Brazilians in May speculated there was a pending deal for Razak, but nothing has been agreed yet.

And as reported officially by Sundowns, “Coach Gavin Hunt has not exercised the option to keep the two players on a permanent deal, as they seem not to be in his plans for the following season.”
The Wits mentor cited prohibitive price tag on the pair, hence his choice not to offer them a permanent deal as widely expected.
Sundowns already have their five foreign quota spots filled with Brazilian Ricardo Nascimento, Algerian Fares Hachi, Colombian Leonardo Castro – plus two Ivorians Soumahoro Bangaly and Yanick Zakri.
Pundits now await to see how Mosimane will exercise his options regarding his foreign quota – or he will loan out other players away from Chloorkop to get them much-required game time.
Meanwhile, Colombian Leonardo Castro is yet to renew a deal with Sundowns which expires at the conclusion of the 2017/18 season. Kaizer Chiefs, short of attacking options are reportedly ready to make a move.
Castro has played second fiddle to the likes of Percy Tau due to persistent injuries. He made 22 appearances in all competitions, scoring only one goal, a stark contrast from his debut spell where he found the back of the net 10 times in 23 outings.
Though an offer to extent his deal until 2020 is in place – his agent Joao Bentancourt says the club has decided to delay offering him a new deal as they look to see whether he will be able to revive his form.
The striker will be free to negotiate and sign a pre-contract with any team of his choice as of January next year as he will be in the final six months of his existing Sundowns contract – meaning Amakhosi can make a bid.
