South African president has defied requests from many quarters to step down.
It came to light recently that Jacob Zuma had also rejected a demand from the ANC integrity commission to resign.Media reported that Zuma turned down the commission’s demand, saying he was aware of some Western governments’ plans to remove him and to take control of the ANC and of the country.

The refusal follows meetings between Zuma and the commission which took place in December and April, revealed City Press.
Zuma’s response was included in a report written by the integrity commission and addressed to ANC secretary-general Gwede Mantashe. The president stated he would not resign. He said he believed that doing so would be a betrayal of the people and the revolution.
“The essence of the president’s refusal to resign is his belief that there exists a conspiracy by Western governments to oust him as president of the ANC and of the country,” read the report.
“The integrity commission does not agree with the president’s explanation. He ignores the very real problems in the ANC, as shown by the rapid decline in support for the party.”
The president is set to face yet another motion of no confidence in parliament next month. – Daily Sun
